Last month I introduced my Artist Book – Nude Shade. In the weeks since, I have found myself thinking less about the book than about why I wanted to make it at all.
A fine art print is usually met one image at a time. A book asks for something different. It lets a body of work exist together — inviting you to slow down, turn back, compare, and return — and in doing so it offers a more intimate way into an artist’s visual language. For me the Artist Book is not simply a publication. It is the simplest way to place my work in your hands.
Whether you already collect or are only beginning to look, the book gathers thirty works into a single coherent body — twenty-eight across its pages, one on the cover, and one on the final page. It is the closest account of how I see the Nude Shade series myself: not as isolated photographs, but as a conversation built from light, shadow, rhythm, and silence.
Many collectors begin with a single print. Others prefer to live with the images first — leafing slowly, returning to certain pages, imagining how a particular work might inhabit a room — before deciding which belongs in their home. The book makes that possible. Some photographs declare themselves at once; others reveal their claim on you only on the second or third encounter.
It is also a considered gift for anyone drawn to contemporary photography, to black-and-white, or to a beautifully made printed object. Some people collect prints; others collect books. This one belongs quietly to both.
Each copy arrives with a complimentary fine art print, 30 × 45 cm. When you order directly through my website, the choice of print is yours: rather than my deciding it for you, you may select any of the thirty works in the book — every photograph you see there, the cover and the final image included. All of them are already gathered in the collection below, so you can look through the prints now, open the ones that hold you, and choose the one you want with intention when you order. Every such print belongs to a signed edition of thirty — so while the Artist Book runs to one hundred and twenty-five copies, no single image is printed in this format and paired with a book more than thirty times. Each book is therefore not only a publication but the beginning of a collection.
Every collection begins somewhere, and there is no wrong place to begin. A smaller format is not a lesser one: scale changes how a work lives in a room, never the image, the edition, or the hand behind it. Begin where you are, and let the images do the slow work of becoming familiar.
